German Police Say Three Shooters Loose in Munich as People Flee
German police said three shooters are on the loose in Munich and urged people to avoid public spaces as authorities conduct large-scale operations in the Bavarian capital.
German media reported that at least three people were killed and many others wounded at a shooting in a shopping center on Friday just before 6 p.m. local time. Witnesses told authorities that three heavily armed individuals were behind the attack. Public transport has been halted and the main train station evacuated as police search for the suspects. People could be seen running and screaming through the center of the city.
Police said they can’t verify the number of victims nor the nature of the casualties. Federal police and special forces have joined in the operation. The shooting happened at the Olympic Shopping Center, located about 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) northwest of the city center. It opened in 1972, in time for the Olympic Games in Germany’s third-largest city and is one of the biggest shopping centers in Bavaria.
